LessonObjectives:
  1. Download and assemble the Family Emergency Preparedness Plan Handbook
The Family Emergency Preparedness Plan Handbook will be an organized repository of all your emergency documents.  It will contain emergency telephone numbers, fire evacuation plans, checklists, and food storage inventory. All of these will be stored in one place. As you proceed through each of the Starter Lessons, you will print and update all of these critical documents.

Every member of your family should become familiar with the Emergency Preparedness Plan.  They should each know where to find the phone numbers. Your family should have opportunities to practice the escape and evacuation drills at least once each year.

Action Item 1: Create an Emergency Preparedness Plan Binder

  1. The entire Emergency Preparedness Handbook is available under Resources.  You can download the entire Family Emergency Preparedness Plan Handbook or the separate lists, as you need them. You need to store them in a single location, familiar to the entire family.  We suggest using a three-ring binder.
  2. Locate a standard 1" binder.
  3. Print the Emergency Preparedness Plan Binder Tabs document.  You may want to put these index pages in plastic sleeves.  You may also want to mark each index page with a tab.
  4. Insert these index pages into the Emergency Preparedness Plan Binder.
You are now ready to begin Lesson 2: Create a family emergency plan.
