Food Storage?... Natural Food Cooking?...Let me show you how simply this can be done!
Lesson Objectives:
- Learn simple ways to organize your pantry and track your
food to determine what
you need.
- Learn to calculate the amount
of food that you need to avoid waste.
- You will learn how to plan and build a food storage supply
on any income.
- You will learn how to cook healthier, shop smarter, and be
more organized than ever.
So, are you ready to take the first step?
- Do you have the skills to create healthy meals for your
family?
- Do you have an organized system to rotate your food
storage regularly?
- Do you have adequate space to store more food in your
pantry?
- Do you have enough containers to store your food?
First, let's take a look at where we can safely store food. Watch the
video here below:
VIDEO CLIP 1: Organizing your food storage
Now let's take some action.
Activity 1: Organize Your Pantry.
- Look in your pantry--decide what can be stored in
containers.
- Do you have enough containers?
- Can you see the food? That is an important factor.
- Is your food easily accessible?
- Are the containers clearly labeled?
Don't rush out and buy all of
the containers at
one. We show you the styles that have been around and should be around
for years. Write down in your notebook the type of container you like
best Visit Stores
and write down where you found it and the best
price. Next buy one or two as you can afford. Be smart, don't
get into debt! Measure your shelf space before heading out to
the stores for containers!
Tracking your food storage for 30 days:
Now, how much do you need? Well, first you need to find out
how much you use. To learn how to determine your food
requirements, watch video clip 2.
VIDEO CLIP 2: Tracking your food usage.
Activity 2: Create your list of
foods
consumed this month.
When you finish with this activity, there won't
be any guessing what you need to store. Follow the
instructions on the video to begin.
One note: Keep in mind that as you
progress through future lessons three things should
happen:
- Your food bill should decrease.
- The flavor of your meals should be enhanced.
- And you will be eating more healthy.
Creating your personalized pantry inventory book
Watch video clip 3. Anitra will show you a very simple
method to create an inventory notebook.
VIDEO CLIP 3: Creating
an inventory notebook.
Isn't that a simple solution? You know exactly what you have, what you
need, and you carry it with you while you're shopping.
Activity 3: Create your
personalized
inventory notebook.
Use a 5"x7" spiral notebook. Create sections as outlined in the video.
Now, go to the pantry and count your
inventory. Use the appropriate units of measurements. For
example: cans of; or lbs. of…, etc. Write
your quantities down.
Download this food
storage inventory list to use as a guide.
